How Your Lack of Self-Care Harms Your Children
Parents are amongst the worst group of people to take care of themselves. The perceived lack of time makes it seem impossible to carve out any time for ourselves.
There are school runs to be done, breakfasts, lunches and dinners to be made, clothes to be washed, doctor appointments to be booked, homework to be completed, baths to be had and bedtime stories to be read.
And all of this is in addition to any other jobs we have.
By the end of the day most of us don’t have enough energy left to even run a bath for ourselves.
And yet, self-care as a parent is oh-so incredibly important on so many levels. But let’s keep this short and sweet because I know that you have jobs to do. ;-)
So here are my top 3 reasons for why parents need to (learn to) prioritise their self-care:
1. Keeping the Engine Well Oiled
Aa parents, we are the engine in our family. If we go down, everything goes down. Just think of the dreaded sick days and the mayhem that ensues from taking a few days (or even hours!) off.
Like with everything in life, if we don’t take care of it and maintain it well, it will break and eventually stop functioning well.
