Want What’s Real, Not Perfect

We are taught to seek perfection.

Because that’s when you’re allowed to feel worthy again.

That’s when you’re someone in the eyes of someone else.

Apparently so.

And no matter how you apply that in your life — whether you seek wealth and status or love and meaning — at one point, you’ll realise that you’re hustling for something that will never give you what you thought it would.

Sorry for this sobering truth. I probably should have put a spoiler alert out there first.

But anyway, it’s not as depressing as it sounds.

Because even if you achieve perfection in the eyes of others … even if you tick off your ‘Successful Life’ to-do list … even if you achieve what you thought would make you feel happy or worthy or accomplished or whatever …

… it won’t feel fulfilling or necessarily enjoyable.

Because perfection that comes from other people’s ideas, rules, standards and expectations feels shallow.

It doesn’t feel like yours.

It doesn’t nourish you emotionally, energetically or in any other way.

What I have come to realise through my work (and, ahem, ageing 😉) is that most of us are really looking for something real.

Not fake. Not filtered. Not polished. Not perfect. Just real.

Something you know.

Something you can trust.

Something you don’t have to sell your soul for.

It’s a moment-by-moment experience and not an ever-lasting feeling (because those don’t exist!).

It’s a look into someone’s eyes that somehow connects your souls and you never wonder once how you looked in that moment or how much money you had in the bank.

It’s the wind brushing through your hair and the sun warming your face on a cool summer’s night.

It’s the exciting and burning desire you feel when you allow yourself to want something after years of denying your wants and needs.

It’s not made up or analysed or talked about and shared.

It’s pure connection.

In that moment you matter.

You live.

You’re real.

And you feel how you’ve always wanted to feel.

Any day, any time, that’s possible for you.

So allow yourself to choose what’s real.

To enjoy it.

To welcome it in.

To immerse yourself in it.

And take off the pressure of perfection once and for all.

It’s real you’re looking for.

Not perfect.

With Love, Marlena
